El Pollo Pio Pio

Sunland-Tujunga is so fortunate to have some wonderful local cafes. One of my favorites is El Pollo Pio Pio in Tujunga, which opened in mid-2011.
The restaurant’s big, colorful window-sign is clear: The charming chickens painted on the front window let passers-by know that El Pollo Pio Pio is a chicken place. The aroma is only part of the experience at this colorful local cafe, as the chicken is cooked on an outside grill. The chicken is moist and has a rich, smoky, grilled flavor. The aroma is unmistakable.
We have stopped in often in the last 3 years to savor the chicken and the zippy sauce for the rice and beans. For tonight’s dinner we enjoyed a 3-piece chicken meal with rice and beans and the quesadilla dish with 2 pieces of chicken. The food was so good that we forgot the soaring temperatures outside. We sipped our chilled sodas in the dining room—which was nice and cool—watched soccer on television, and had a view of our local mountains.
The menu also includes tacos, burritos, and Mexican sodas, but regular soft drinks and water are available too. You also can order a half chicken with sides. Local delivery is now available, and most dishes are $7 or less. The price for 2 whole chickens and 4 sides is $25. Chicken and sides are available for takeout too.
The owner and his family are very welcoming and helpful with any questions. Stop by El Pollo Pio Pio and see how the restaurant has expanded from its modest beginnings in 2011 to the popular, and loved, place it is today.
